This course reviews the basic skills required of an Expanded Duties Orthodontic Assistant as well as the regulations regarding such duties. The duties and permissions coincide with those established by the Georgia Board of Dentistry. The course covers the topics of band fitting and cementation, bracket bonding and removal, wire ligation and removal, and records acquisition.

PLEASE RECOGNIZE that many tasks which can be delegated to dentals assistants in an orthodontic clinic REQUIRE the dental assistant to be certified as an “Expanded Duties Dental Assistant”. Successful completion of the GAO’s Expanded Duties Dental Assistant Course provides Expanded Duty Dental Assistant certification and assists orthodontists in the state of Georgia who choose to delegate these specific duties.
The course is administered by a member Orthodontist of the Georgia Association of Orthodontists (GAO). After reviewing the material presented, the candidates take a written exam which covers this material. A score of 80% is required to pass the exam and receive certification by the GAO as an Expanded Duties Orthodontic Assistant.
